After loads of social media discussion, threads, banter and overall interweb excitedness... Mr. Mike Zwack, M.S (Lead Faculty at the National Personal Training Institute, Seattle) and myself (Summer Huntington, MS: Co-Creator of Clubbell Yoga) will be leading an Intro to Clubbell Yoga Workshop this January 31st, at the esteemed Elite Performance Center. Now the back story. (Oh and Sign Up by January 10th for the Early Bird Price of $77).
Mike Zwack's enthusiasm is contagious, and I realized this the very first time I met him. At every seminar I have taught with him, he carries incredible energy. I am very excited to collaborate with him down in Seattle, HIS own stomping grounds. Mike is also an inspiring teacher and coach to many students who study at NPTI, the region's private technical school for those who want to make a career of personal training. You walk into his "office" (which happens to be a huge 4000 sq. ft. warehouse) and you see weight plates, squat racks, lots of Clubbells, TRX, tires, balancing gadgets, Functional Movement Screening tools and everything else you could possibly need to help people learn to: move better, get stronger, develop power and more. But I digress. We are stealing Mike Zwack for a day to help teach the crew at Elite Performance how Clubbell Yoga impacts your Functional Fitness.
Some of the most common tests that people use to test functional fitness are:
1. Deep Squat
2. Hurdle Step
3. In Line Lunge
4. Shoulder Mobility
5. Active Straight Leg Raise
6. Trunk Stability Push Up
7. Rotary Stability
*These tests and more are very well documented by the respected Gray Cook, of Functional Movement Systems.
I am a huge fan of Gray Cook's work, and functional fitness drives most of the programming for Clubbell Yoga. Mike shares my sentiments, and can tell you all about it at the workshop :) . My goal with Clubbell Yoga is to help people become as functional as possible, so that they can be injury free, mobile and able to do their favorite activities, day in and day out. That may seem super simple and altruistic, but that is because it is. Clubbell Yoga is a very efficient way to train strength, dynamic flexibility, inner core strength and balance all in one class. It is also one of the best ways to train flow state, because of the nesting and regressions. Come to the workshop to learn more!
